Branding Identity

September 24, 2007

After looking at some of the websites for major companies like Nike, the Oranguatan Foundation, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and a website for Michel Gondry. I’m trying to think of what kind of brand identity I would fit into. I think I am more of an artist or designer than a developer. I feel a bit schitzophrenic with my blog as I am trying to figure out my identity. I thought of putting that Gummi Bear as an icon but I’m not sure what kind of content I am supposed to put up. Perhaps I can start looking into different types of animations and games with the look and feel of the Gummi Bear sketch? When I look at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art website, I noticed that it is focused on having a lot of content in an artistic way. There is a lot of movement with the text and there are a lot of pop ups of other emphasized words such as technology, identity, anonymity which links to certain quotes from other artists. I find this website a bit confusing to navigate with all the animated links and moving text on it.

thinking back

September 24, 2007

I find it interesting how digital media has become a big part of my life. I am constantly on Facebook, MSN Messenger, email, Deviant Art, Skype, and many other websites. I’m always interested in what my friends and family members are doing.

The reason I think a lot of people have become addicted to digital media is because there are many ways to communicate instantaneously without heavy expenses.

When I talked to my parents about when they were my age, they said it was difficult to keep in touch with a lot of their college and high school friends because long distance calls cost a fortune. They would have to send a handwritten letter or would have to use a typewriter to send a typed letter.

It also makes me wonder why digital media can be so addicting. About 8 years ago I never really cared about using the internet or the computer even. Suddenly it has become necessary to know so many applications and different types of media. It seems like digital media is just expanding in so many directions that make us more dependent on it.

More limitations

September 24, 2007

If I wanted to edit my templates it says that I can only do it with the CSS upgrade. You can only alter some of the styling of an existing theme. Adding or removing any html is not allowed for security reasons.

Here is the link.

Embedding music

September 24, 2007

Testing how to embed a music file onto my blog.

This song is by Emilie Simon and is called Flowers.

This says that you need to find an mp3 file on the web and there can be a small link to play the song below. Either that or you have to register for Sonific which adds a Music Widget onto your site. This music widget will allow you to have several songs on a playlist that you have created on that site and then it will stream onto your blog.

Link that tells you how to embed music.

From these links it says that you can not use Javascript because it can be a security problem. Someone made Livejournal and Myspace shut down by using it. This limits the different types of video that you can stream from because Word Press does not trust adding a Flash animation directly. You would have to upload it on You Tube for example for it to stream onto the blog.

Also it says that you can only link to files from certain sources from Google Video to Splash Cast for security reasons as well.

Also – perhaps for the design of my blog and website I can create a bunch of different Gummi Bear Characters – from Gummi Bear zombies to Gummi Bear Monsters to Gummi Bear Micheal Jacksons, etc. I think making images like that would be amusing. However, I’m trying to think of what kind of audience my website and blog would attract.

I’m going to see if some of these music files from Project Playlist embed and work. I could use this site in the future to add well known songs onto my blog or website.

This doesn’t seem to work. The embedded code will not make a playlist for Word Press. I know it works for Myspace and Facebook. Maybe adding a link to the Project Playlist would work?

Candy energy

Energy Of Candy Gummi Bears Vs. M&M’sWatch more funny videos here

Found this on google video. Someone takes some Gummi Bears and M & M’s and mixes them with some chemicals. The reaction that takes place shows how much energy is within these types of candies. Wow. I wish I could make a rocket or something with this reaction!

Now here is a You Tube clip that explains the reaction that occurs.

Rough sketch

September 21, 2007

Here is a first sketch of a Gummi Bear Gangsta character that I want to design my blog with. It isn’t colored in yet but here is my initial idea.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I had to log onto my Photobucket account and upload a Jpeg pic I sketched on Photobucket. I used my small wacom tablet and graphic pen to make this. It is a really rough sketch but maybe it can be more interesting if I work on it more. I also need to find more content of different types to post on this blog and experiment with. Perhaps I can find other video file formats to play around with.

brand identity

September 21, 2007

I’ve been thinking of having an identity related to candy. I worked on a flash project in my first year seminar class and my friend and I created Gummy Bear Gangsters. I think I want to use the Gummy Bear Gangsters as my main icon or visual image for my site. I find However, I think I should try and find some content related to candy and put it onto my blog for now. I also like the concept of making this site somewhat amusing because the design has something bright and cute with candy mixed with something kind of violent in today’s culture. I was thinking of using Photoshop with my small wacom tablet to make some of the funny images.
